Matthew Background to photography
I first picked up a camera when I was about thirteen years old - one of my aunts 35mm Agfa bodies - and have never looked back since. Once a prohibitively expensive hobby, photography represents a way in which to merge technology with creativity. I started with Minolta - an X700 that I still have today. Try as I might, I have not been able to encourage my children to take up photography so it still sits in the bottom of my cabinet.
Today, I am an unashamed Canon fan. I have used the EOS series of film and digital bodies and the Canon brand has evolved with the times.
I have a Canon D10 and an EOS1N film body. Although digital is easy and convenient to use, I still find film to have a greater richness in results and the colour spectrum over digital.
But what most users find different is the changing focal length of lenses between using a digital and a film back. For example, using a D10, a 50mm lens really is 80mm lens whereas on the EOS 1N it is a true 50mm focal length.
